Carers' Action Plan

The States of Guernsey is seeking the input of people who provide unpaid support to family members and friends to begin the development of a Carers' Action Plan.

This Action Plan is for people who provide unpaid support to their family members, neighbours or friends. Many people play important roles in supporting family members and friends. This might include, for example, supporting people who are elderly, disabled, or experiencing long-term health issues. There are different ways in which carers might support family members or friends. These could include making meals for someone, helping them to get up in the morning, helping with shopping or keeping an eye on someone who is at risk. Most people will undertake a caring role at some point in their lives.

As part of the Supported Living and Ageing Well Strategy the States of Guernsey made a strategic commitment to 'recognise the value of informal carers and seek to ensure that they are supported'. In fulfilment of that commitment, the States is in developing a Carers Action Plan which will outline the priority actions that need to be undertaken to support people in Guernsey and Alderney who support family members and friends. This action plan will be published during 2018.

In order to help identify the priorities of carers, and what changes are needed to better support them, the work is beginning with a survey and an event which will help to shape the Action Plan and what is included in it.

To take part in our survey please follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/carersactionplan

The survey will close on Wednesday 7th March. Paper copies are available on request:

There will also be an event taking place at Les Cotils on Thursday 15th February from 17:30-19:30. At the event there will be an explanation of what the Carers Action Plan work is, an explanation of what we have heard so far and an opportunity to have some further discussion around what you would like to see included in the plan on key topics. There are a limited number of spaces so if you would like to reserve a place please contact us:
